The MMA Alumni Association was founded in 1946 by A. Edward Langlois Jr.
The MMA Board of Trustees authorized the Alumni Association and appointed Mr. Langlois
to serve as secretary in March 1946.
The first meeting of the Maine Maritime Academy Alumni Association was held on June 22, 1946 in Portland, Maine.
At the time the first Officers were elected.
They were:
- William H. McReel, President;
- Mark Sewall, Vice President;
- A. Edward Langlois, Secretary/Treasurer.
On June 21, 1947, the Maine Maritime Academy Alumni Association was incorporated
Purpose:
The Purpose of the Maine Maritime Academy Alumni Association shall be:
- To assure the permanence of the Maine Maritime Academy
- To furnish support to the Maine Maritime Academy, its graduates and undergraduates
- To Assist, by united efforts, in advancing the welfare of the Maine Maritime Academy for
men and women desirous of entering upon seafaring careers as officers in the United States
Merchant Marine, the Armed Forces of the United States, technical or managerial operations
and other fields related to their education and training
- To uphold and foster high standards for graduates of the Maine Maritime Academy
- To cement relations among the graduates by creating and preserving a feeling of fellowship
and a means to perpetuate common memories
