As far as I know it at this time, The Bohm family originated in Holland.
Sometime during the 1500's A Simon Bohm was to have migrated into the Brandenburg area of Germany.
The Bohm name gained prominence soon thereafter when a family member was to have done some thing great for the then presiding king. The king told The Bohm that he could have all the land plowed in one day.
So this unknown Bohm took his best horse or oxen (or whatever he was supposed to have) and at first light, started plowing a furrow in a straight line. When approximately 1/4 of the day elapsed, he made a 90 degree turn and plowed straight again for an equivalent amount of time. He repeated this procedure when at sunset, he came generally to spot whence he started that day. All the land within this square furrow-row was to be his. This area was told to me and known as The Bohmeheide. At about this time, this Bohm was also to have been knighted. From that period on, until it fell out of vogue and was dropped, the name was VonBohm.
This history sounds very romantic. However, I cannot verify this story at this time. If you have any information to substantiate this, please E-mail me at: bohm@3me.com, or make an entry in the Guestbook.
